Opening - Dominik Běhal: Egress

27 May 2026
Overview

Dominik Běhal (*1988, Šternberk), a graduate of Michael Rittstein’s Painting Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2009–2015), is one of the most prominent artists of the contemporary painting generation. The exhibition Egress presents his works from recent years, in which he redefines the relationship between mural painting and the hanging picture in an original way. The artist removes the traditional technique of fresco from its architectural framework and transforms it into portable panels, thereby granting it a new autonomy.

The central motifs are processuality and cyclicity, particularly evident in the depiction of figures undergoing constant decay and spiritual renewal. The resulting composition does not offer a closed narrative, but instead becomes a site for the continuous rearrangement of meanings.
