Kateřina Komm (* 1990) was born in Prague, where she lives and works. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the sculpture studios of J. Róna, J. Zeithammel, J. Hendrych and V. Míči. Kateřina Komm's artistic work represents a multi-layered expression that is evident not only in the way she works, but also in the interconnection of multiple media that shape the resulting work. The wide dispersion of the artist's work is also evident in the scale she uses - from miniature objects and sculptures to large-scale objects.
Layering and connecting - not only material - is a specific feature of the artist's work. Personal experience is a subject that is either treated by allusion or rendered in a legible and concrete way. Another feature of the artist's work is memory as a phenomenon and the related need to preserve - in the case of sculptures, it is manifested through various techniques used, from engraving, writing or imprinting, and in the case of the artist's photographs, which are a pervasive line of her works, then through the articulation and archiving of the theme in a two-dimensional medium. The multitude of records of events, individual experiences and various perceptions of an unlimited time scale are the field on whose ground the individual layers then interpenetrate to form the final physical and visible whole.

The artwork is loosely related to my body of work entitled “Kodada rudá, medzeba baldá” which focused on family memory. It exclusively delved into the oral history passed down through generations within my family. This piece portrays my great-aunt riding a deer that had caught a poacher’s attention. My great-aunt then took care of the deer in the gamekeeper’s lodge. She shared this story with me during my early childhood while combing my hair. Following her passing, no one in my family believed the tale, as they had never heard of it. However, we have since confirmed its authenticity as photographs capturing these moments were discovered years later.
